One of the ideal ways to prepare your pet for a long car trip is to take a series of shorter trips. Drive across town with your pet crated in your car so that they will feel comfortable in the vehicle. Putting your pet in a crate will keep them safe and secure. Make sure the crate is well ventilated and not too hot. Pack your pet's favorite blanket or pillow to aid in their comfort. If you can't keep your dog crated, make sure that they are securely inside the vehicle. It may be fun for them to hang their heads out to catch the wind, but you want to ensure that they are safe.
