After the impressive 5 Series debuted last year, we’re getting our first look now at the 2018 BMW M5. Not only has the new performance variant taken on the new car’s changes, it comes with more power, and a few firsts. Among them—wait for it—is the first-ever standard all-wheel drive on the M5.

Although some enthusiasts may decry this development, the M5 will also come standard with a rear-biased 2WD mode, with the option to disable Dynamic Stability Control. Beyond that, it just gets better. Under the hood is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque mated to a performance-tuned eight-speed automatic. With this setup in hand, the M5 goes from stop to sixty in 3.2 seconds. Revised track and suspension, larger brake rotors with blue brake calipers round out the upgrades, and there are plenty of M Sport add ons to further enhance the ride.
